For almost four decades, the Treasure Coast Model Railroad Club and Historical Society, Inc. have been bringing the fun and historical perspective of model railroading to the Treasure Coast. In 1975 three model railroaders in Vero Beach determined that there was interest in forming a Model Railroad Club. The Club thus had its beginning with this nucleus of interested hobbyists. The Treasure Coast Model Railroad Club declared itself as an actual organization on September 2, 1975. The railroad is modeled during the transition era between steam and diesel power of US railroads, which occurred between the 1940’s to the 1970’s. It is HO scale (1:87), utilizing a Digitrax DCC control system. Layout has two major freight yards, 2 city passenger stations, several industrial complexes, a freight harbor, steel mill and a coal mine. In addition, there are three cities, several towns, lakes, mountains and a desert. Many of the structures [More]

Plans for making tunnel portals available from http://www.modelbuildings.org/walls-bridges-tunnel-portals.html are suitable for HO scale, OO gauge, N scale, S and Z scales. Tunnels are a great device for making your layout look much larger than it really is. A train can disappear into a tunnel before almost magically reappearing out the other end. A tunnel can hide a train for a short period of time, allowing the viewer to imagine that it has left the area for a destination far away. From my experience, it’s usually best to make the tunnels during the early stages of constructing a layout. If you leave it until the scene is completed, it can be difficult to add a tunnel without disturbing the scenery you already have in place. Pre-made tunnels are available commercially, but in my opinion, the more realistic tunnels are ones you construct yourself. And, there are various ways to go about [More]
THE SUNDANCE CENTRAL RAILROAD – The Sundance was formed in January 2004 with the goal to create a more detailed and uniformly scened, large-scale traveling layout. This 1:20.3 scale modular model railroad consisting of forty modules for a layout size of 45 feet by 45 feet. The railroad consists of 400 feet of hand laid code 250 aluminum rails that are hand spiked with individual tie plates onto wood ties with a total of 16 turn-outs. The modular was built by a group of seven model train enthusiasts. This diverse group is made up of people who have a passion of early narrow gauge steam locomotives to modern day standard gauge diesels. The purpose for forming this modular group was to provide the public a realistic look at model railroading in a large-scale format. The modules are highly detailed from the scratch built supporting structures and buildings down to the [More]

All programming in this video was done real time with a digitrax zephyr (DCS 50) system, and an Intermountain Railway Company ES44DC (Norfolk Southern ES40DC) This video covers: -CV’s what they are and what they do -Programming CV with Digitrax Zephyr -Resetting and recovering a locomotive to factory settings -Programming a 4 digit address to almost any locomotive Important things to remember: – Setting CV08 to 08 will reset all settings to the factory value – A locomotive that has been reset will respond to an address of 03 – Remove other locmotives from track before resetting in ops mode – There are many ways to program these things, this is just one of them – It is hard to ruin a decoder by programming it incorrectly, dont be afraid to try things (reset if and when needed) – MTH locomotives are different – You must select the locomotive prior [More]
