Today, we are going to make a journey to France. At the great model railway exhibition in Leipzig, Germany, the French model railroad club “Amis du Rail 67” presented its beautiful layout built in HO scale. On the modular railway layout, there are one large railway line in HO scale, two railway lines in narrow gauge, and a miniature street for vehicles of the famous Faller Car system. The whole display takes approximately 15 meters in length and 5 meters in width. Pilentum was absolutely fascinated by the good work, how buildings and trees and the landscape were modeled. Furthermore, the background consists of a beautiful painting. I guess, the background image was painted by Patrice Hamm, a famous artist in railway modelling. The model railroading club and its members created a very special atmosphere: The landscape is not overcrowded with gimmicks. It is a simple, but very beautiful landscape [More]
THE SUNDANCE CENTRAL RAILROAD – The Sundance was formed in January 2004 with the goal to create a more detailed and uniformly scened, large-scale traveling layout. This 1:20.3 scale modular model railroad consisting of forty modules for a layout size of 45 feet by 45 feet. The railroad consists of 400 feet of hand laid code 250 aluminum rails that are hand spiked with individual tie plates onto wood ties with a total of 16 turn-outs. The modular was built by a group of seven model train enthusiasts. This diverse group is made up of people who have a passion of early narrow gauge steam locomotives to modern day standard gauge diesels. The purpose for forming this modular group was to provide the public a realistic look at model railroading in a large-scale format. The modules are highly detailed from the scratch built supporting structures and buildings down to the [More]
This model train layout was built at the end of the 1990’s. At that time, it was the largest model railway layout in the world with more than 700 square meters of exhibition space. Today, this HO scale model railroad layout is still one of the largest exhibition made by Marklin. On the whole railroad display, there are 200 trains and more than 3,000 passenger cars and freight cars in use. Also, there are 4,100 meters of railway tracks with 356 waypoints and crossings as well as 290 railway signals. Please, note the mountains up to three meters in height. Take a look at the bridges and railway viaducts. Dug up some old clips of Bernie Kempinski painting some backdrops on my HO scale railroad. Mostly did this as an experiment with audio, but not sure this has ever been posted so thought some might find it interesting. Installing decoders can vary from simple plug in procedures to very challenging hard wiring projects. In this video I want to share with you the process I followed installing a SoundTraxx Econami PNP decoder in a Stewart F3A diesel that I wrote about in my DCC Corner column in the January 2020 Model Railroader magazine. This is a fairly easy hardwiring project that doesn’t require a lot of experience or advanced soldering skills. In the video I used an 11x15mm sugar cube speaker and enclosure from Tony’s Trains, 3/32″ and 3/64″ heat shrink tubing from All Electronics, and the SoundTraxx ECO-PNP diesel decoder. The LEDs are 0805 surface mount golden white with 1000 ohm resistors purchased on eBay. As you can see this is a long video which covers the entire process step by step. H.B. Plant Railroad Historical Society – Home of the Mineral Valley Railroad. The HO layout, The Mineral Valley, contains a 30” gauge lumber road and a 36” gauge mining road, and has a 144’ ling doubled tracked standard gauge mainline with 37” minimum radius curves and 1 ½ percent grades. The mainline is point-to-point with the two main yards forming a loop for constant running. A 1900–1910 version of Plant City, Florida is displayed with the correct era buildings, vehicles, and rolling stock. Most of the buildings are scratch built from photographs found in the East Hillsbrough Historical Societies Archives. The HO layout also features a large city (36 feet long with a freight yard, a rural passenger station, a large passenger station, and a truck on flat car yard). The two yards share an engine facility. ADDRESS: H. B. Plant Railroad Historical Society 605 N. Collins St, Plant City, [More]
Micro Layouts – interview with Carl Arendt 201o, recorded by the Model Railway Show. Carl was a huge inspiration and friend to many modellers around the world and is greatly missed. This video is a means to preserve this interview (although the Model Railway Show podcasts are still available on iTunes at the moment and worth a listen!). Since his passing, the site has been taken on by a volunteer who has preserved the wonderful archive and continues to be updated to this date. The random selection of pictures in this video are a small sample of the great stuff to be found there. http://www.carendt.com/ Recommended ReadingAirbrush booth & SoundTraxx equalizer | Model railroad tips | Model Railroad Hobbyist | MRHSuperb Model Railway made by French Railroad EnthusiastsBernie Paints a BackdropTrack Ballast And Weathering??
