DCC Programming Basics – CV's, Locomotive Addresses, Horns

Share it with your friends Like

All programming in this video was done real time with a digitrax zephyr (DCS 50) system, and an Intermountain Railway Company ES44DC (Norfolk Southern ES40DC)

This video covers:
-CV’s what they are and what they do
-Programming CV with Digitrax Zephyr
-Resetting and recovering a locomotive to factory settings
-Programming a 4 digit address to almost any locomotive

Important things to remember:
– Setting CV08 to 08 will reset all settings to the factory value
– A locomotive that has been reset will respond to an address of 03
– Remove other locmotives from track before resetting in ops mode
– There are many ways to program these things, this is just one of them
– It is hard to ruin a decoder by programming it incorrectly, dont be afraid to try things (reset if and when needed)
– MTH locomotives are different
– You must select the locomotive prior to programming in ops mode
– Program CV 17 and 18 before CV 29

The site I used to calculate the values for CV 17,18, and 29 is as follows
http://www.2mm.org.uk/articles/cv29%20calculator.htm

I am not responsible for any damaged decoders, locomotives, self esteems, or failing relationships. You are choosing to watch this video, and you are choosing to change things on your locomotive. I am simply here sharing what I have found to work for me.

Good Luck and Thanks for Watching, back to normal videos later in the week

You should do another video with locomotives with loksound. Can you do it? Is it possible?

hey thanks for the vid , the first was great but this helped me out . I have a railyard with a genset and just got this stuff and didn't know how to use it because I'm new to digitrax because I'm used to Lionel

Good video.  Only question is – Are the wires from the DSC50 to the track from the "track" on the Program" outlets on the back?

JAZZ MAN says:

I tried to put my locomotive’s cab number into the calculator like you did. My loco is the Duke Of Gloucester 71000. It said it was out of range!

Amy Vickers says:

can you do a video on how to change the direction and speeds

Russell Loomis says:

This used to work before I reset my controller back to factory. First hit program to page. Second hit locomotive key to where it gives you either add to or add four select what you want to put in 2or4 address. And third press CV-RW and that should program your new address. Then exit out. Like I said this used to work on mine before I did a factory reset. Now I can't do anything with it it just reads D ND.

Russell Loomis says:

Compared to that last video this video is a hundred percent better. The other video you're just going way too fast and couldn't see what you were pressing. Also if anybody can explain to me how to quit seeing the DND everytime I try to program an address would be very appreciate it.
